The Process of Fabricating Soft Window Treatments
By definition, “fabrication” is the process of inventing or manufacturing something. In the case of a window treatment specialist, it’s the process of inventing and manufacturing completely custom, hand-made window treatments. We’re also a little spoiled with the term because “fabric” is right there in the name — how coincidental!
Going to a specialist for window treatment fabrication opens up a world of opportunities you may otherwise have known nothing about. The Pinched Pleat’s passion is creating art out of fabric, and we’re so happy that we get to fabricate treatments for our clients. Keep reading if you’re interested in learning more about our process and fabrication timelines or soft window treatment fabrication in general.
The Pinched Pleat’s Fabrication Process
After consulting with you and presenting you with design ideas and renderings, it’s time to decide. Once the details are settled, the real fun begins—fabrication!
The fabrication stage begins with ordering materials. We make a point of ordering the highest quality fabrics from the highest quality and most accredited retailers. The time between ordering and receiving materials may vary depending on the rarity and uniqueness of your fabrics.
Once we receive your project's materials, we start stitching! The Pinched Pleat fabricates all of our client’s projects in our dedicated home workroom space, which fits every tool of the window treatment trade we could ever need to perfect the details of your project.
An Overview of Fabrication Timelines
Several factors affect the fabrication timeline, so we give each client a personalized timeline estimation. Here are a few things we consider when estimating how long a project will take, from final design decisions to treatment installation in your home:
We often estimate the timeline to be between 4 and 6 weeks for simple, straightforward projects that use readily available materials. The timeline could extend to about 12 to 16 weeks for more complicated treatments crafted with uncommon fabrics. It’s important to note that these are general estimations, and the timeline varies from project to project.
