MY STORY

Meet Dana Newsom,
Owner & Principal

My lifelong passion for sewing, from intricate needle art to custom window treatments, has refined my expertise in design and advanced sewing techniques. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of fabric manipulation, pattern creation, and design aesthetics, I bring a unique blend of creativity and technical skill to every project.
After earning a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1995, I spent years consulting business executives on employee retirement benefits, honing my strategic planning and client relations skills. My husband, Chase, and I started our family of 7 in 2001, quickly teaching me invaluable lessons in time management, multitasking, and adaptability.
While living in Ghana, West Africa, during the adoption process of two of our daughters, I co-founded a crisis pregnancy center, further developing my leadership and problem-solving abilities. I transitioned to the non-profit healthcare sector in 2010 and pursued a Master's in Healthcare Administration.
Throughout my journey, sewing has been a constant source of creative expression. As my husband and I approach an empty nest, I channel my diverse business expertise and creative passion into The Pinched Pleat. I am committed to providing a personalized, relaxed, comfortable design experience that exceeds client expectations. I look forward to our paths crossing!

Make your home uniquely you with The Pinched Pleat.

In 2021, I established The Pinched Pleat as an accessible source for well-made and custom-fit soft furnishings.

I’m Alathea, and I have been Dana’s Design Assistant at The Pinched Pleat since August 2022, when I was placed in an internship position through a Work-Based Learning program offered at my high school. I am attending Indiana University, majoring in Interior Design and minoring in Business. I’m busy designing and organizing in The Pinched Pleat’s Lebanon, IN workroom when I'm not in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana.

As a design assistant, I handle client and vendor communication, renderings, presentations, product research, maintenance of materials, and any other task Dana designates for me. Dana has taught me so much about the industry, allowing me to be prepared as I pursue my dream career as an interior designer. I am grateful to be a part of The Pinched Pleat’s team and help clients create spaces they love!
