Understanding Semi-Custom Window Treatments

Table of Contents Show

Semi-custom window treatments give you the freedom to design your own window treatments from scratch. Though the extent to which you can control the details is slightly limited compared to a fully custom project, your treatments are still made-to-order and are tailored just for you.

The streamlined buying process counterbalances what you sacrifice in design and size options. You can see all of the possibilities laid out before you and make your order straight away, which means a shorter time between making your purchase and receiving your personalized projects! The goal of The Pinched Pleat’s semi-custom drapery and Roman shade program is to put the power in your hands, even if you don’t have the time or the need to go through a multi-step process.

Your experience as a client will be relatively independent compared to our fully custom experience, but we ensure you have all the tools and guides necessary to order the ideal treatments for your home. We’re always just an email or phone call away if you have additional questions. Learn more about our semi-custom options below.

    The Semi-Custom Self-Service Process

Semi-custom window treatments are a fantastic option for homeowners who want treatments that are simple to moderate in complexity. You’ll have the chance to make decisions about some of the most important aspects of your window treatment, including:

    • Drapery heading style or Roman shade style. For drapes, your options include the classic pinch and Euro pleats and several other of our most popular pleats. We also offer unpleated styles, such as the ripplefold, if you favor a more contemporary look. For Roman shades, your options consist of flat, ribbed, relaxed, or hobbled.

    • Fabric. We offer a thoughtfully curated collection of decorator fabrics in a variety of colors, patterns, and fabric types, such as linen, cotton, silk, velvet, and many more.

    • Lining options. You can elect for no lining, privacy lining, or blackout lining.

    • Methods of operation. Would you prefer to operate your drapes or shades manually, or do you want to upgrade to motorized treatments? Your semi-custom drapes can be baton-draw or motorized, whereas your Roman shades can be cordless or motorized.

    • Length and width. You can specify your treatment's exact length and width to the nearest inch. We make semi-custom drapes from 84 to 144 inches long and 20 to 200 inches wide. Our semi-custom Roman shades can be 36 to 108 inches long and 24 to 84 inches wide.

    • Hardware. No window treatment is complete without hardware, and we have several collections for you to choose from as you build your semi-custom drapes or Roman shades from the ground up — or the hardware down.

After making your choices, you can review your selections and the total cost before submitting your order. Your hand-crafted treatment will be delivered between 2 and 4 weeks after you submit your order, but this timeline varies depending on how large and elaborate your project is.

It’s important to note that you will be responsible for taking measurements of your home and installing your finished treatments. We encourage you to take advantage of our information guides during these processes to make the final product look flawless.

Our Approach to Fabricating Semi-Custom Window Treatments

We take great pride in every project that passes through our workroom. The Pinched Pleat fabricates your semi-custom drapes with designer features, like blind-stitched hems (no visible stitches), weighted bottom hems (to ensure proper hanging), and buckram fold headers (to give structure). These features help your drapes maintain their shape and elegance for years to come.
